San Jose, Calif., January 12, 2006; updated Feb. 13, 2006

EMQ Children & Family Services, a nonprofit agency dedicated to transforming the lives of children with serious emotional difficulties, today announced that Roger Barney has been elected chairman of the board at EMQ. Effective immediately, Barney will lead EMQ’s board into the organization’s new fiscal year in achieving higher goals than in 2005.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Roger’s leadership, expertise, and commitment to serving children and families that need EMQ’s skills and services,” said Jerry Doyle, CEO of EMQ Children & Family Services. “I have the utmost confidence in Roger’s vision to help guide EMQ in transforming the lives of many more children and families.”

Barney has devoted more than 32 years to community service, including serving on the EMQ board of directors since 2001. He served for many years on the HOPE Services Board, and was the founding president of The Foundation for HOPE. Barney was honored as a Lifelines Volunteer by San Jose Magazine and Comerica Bank on February 10, 2006.

“I’m looking forward to making a difference in the lives of the children and families that EMQ touches,” said Barney. “This year the board of directors will be making an effort to have the board better represent the communities we serve as well as increase the involvement of our donors in EMQ’s mission of helping meet the unmet needs of children and families.”

He currently serves as a consultant with the Jackson Hole Group, a provider of strategic human capital management consulting support to boards, CEOs and senior executives. Prior to consulting with the Jackson Hole Group, Barney was Principal Consultant with Valerie Frederickson & Company. Until 2004, he served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Services at Borland Software overseeing human resources, facilities and real estate, IT and administration. He also served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Services for Network Equipment Technologies. During Barney’s career, he has worked in a major HR role at various companies including Fairchild, Verbatim, McGraw Hill, and Bendix Corporation.
