Today Troy is back home with his mom and doing fine.
At age two, Troy’s mom Kelly was struggling with drug addiction and left him in the custody of his father. When his father became abusive, Troy was put into foster care. Severely traumatized by the abuse, Troy became depressed, had a difficult time forming relationships and was unable to focus at school. He became aggressive, a common symptom of children suffering from depression. He moved from foster home to foster home, finally ending up in the same group home his mother had lived in 16 years earlier.
When EMQ Children & Family Services came into Troy’s life, they began searching for family members who might be able to provide the permanent, loving home Troy needed to heal. They located Troy’s mother, who was at the same time looking for Troy. In the 11 years mother and son had been separated, Kelly had recovered from her addiction, had remarried and was holding down a full time job.
Kelly badly regretted leaving Troy. She wanted him to have a better childhood than she had and she was ready to be the parent her son needed. Troy was ready to come home! With the help of EMQ’s Wraparound and its customized services, Troy and his mother now look forward to a new beginning. EMQ is helping Troy through the challenging adjustments of moving home, and is working with his mom, step-dad and siblings to support him. Troy is happier than he’s ever been, and he is doing well. Kelly knows that with the help of EMQ, Troy will have a different childhood than she had, surrounded by a loving and supportive family.
